A Vibracore is a device to apply vibrations to a sample tube. It’s just about the only way that good sampling can be achieved in water, tidal, and swampy areas. The retention of the sample is carried out with a unique core catcher.

The added use of a diaphragm vacuum pump can achieve up to an 80% vacuum which will further help to retain samples.

The energy supplied from the Vibracore is sufficient to drive a 76mm aluminum tube to 6 or more metres. Note that timber, stones, rocks etc. can limit the penetrable depth.

The Vibracore is sealed so that it can be used under water in shallow areas.

The power source may be from the drilling rig itself or from one Melvelle power packs with choices of petrol or diesel engines.
