Screw Spike Drivers - Models 163 - AQ, 163 - CN and 159 - AC

Our screw spike head can be fitted to the standard eye of our spike pullers or fitted to our track pack system (TP143) or as a full machine.

Screwing head for Rail Screw Spike, length 640mm x width 690mm x height 970mm. Weight 38kg. Screwing machine complete for Rail Screw Spike with 11hp Honda petrol engine:- length 2470mm x width 690mm x height 970mm. Weight without trolley 123kg. Rail trolley fitted with light tool tray and easy glide wheels.

Variable rotation speed to 120rpm (8cc pump). Clockwise torque limit controlled (up to approx. 300Nm calculated), set by the operator. Unscrewing torque machine preset torque limit. System pressure 2100psi.
We are able to fit larger torque drive heads with corresponding slower maximum rotation speeds.

The need to have a vertical action for driving dog screw spikes prompted the development of our pantographic design for driving dog screws. The maximum torque developed is about 350Nm, screws commonly require about 200Nm. A system pressure gauge is fitted to aid in setting the screw torque. The maximium peed of rotation is 120rpm.

By removing the extension shaft for driving the dog screws and fitting the drill bit to the high speed drilling head (not shown), sleepers are easily drilled. Due to the pantographic action, the drill spindle is always vertical. Because the drill can be stopped for rotation, the drill bit can be entered into the rail seat and gentle rotation commenced before full speed is applied to the drill bit. Engines available are either 7hp Yanmar diesel or 11hp Honda petrol. Approx. dimensions:- length 1960mm x width 600mm x height 855mm. Weight 123kg.

The nut driver/unscrewing machine (shown right) is easily capable of unscrewing an M24 nut fully tightened with a Makita 1" drive impact wrench . Also note the operating work light and the sound reduction enclosure on the 13hp Honda engine. Total machine weight as shown 208kg excluding rail trolley.

Tightening is precisely controlled with our inbuilt fast acting unloading relief on the clockwise tightening torque only. This ensures repeatability on tightening torque. Tightening torque are usually about 1000psi while a fuel unscrewing pressure is up to 2200psi.
