Pantographic Screw Spike Driver

Model SS163 – Build CN/DH/DI

The need to have a vertical action for driving Dog Screw Spikes prompted the development of our pantographic design for driving dog screws. Full torque is available for unscrewing the spikes however the operator (or mechanic) can easily set the maximum and repeatable limit for tightening the screws. The maximum torque developed is about 350 Nm, screws commonly require about 200 Nm. A system pressure gauge is fitted to aid in setting the screw torque. The maximum speed of rotation is 120 rpm.

Control by the operator for clockwise rotation is by squeezing the RH trigger, anti clockwise rotation is by squeezing the LH trigger, oh just so simple to use!

By removing the extension shaft for driving the dog screws and fitting the drill bit to the high speed drilling head (not shown on this dedicated driver), sleepers are easily drilled. Due to the pantographic action, the drill spindle is always vertical. Because the drill can be stopped for rotation, the drill bit can be entered into the rail seat and gently rotation commenced before full speed is applied to the drill bit.

Operator effort during drilling or screwing is reduced because our power pack provides a benign counter acting weight to the operator head. Full head movement from side to side occurs at the central support.

Engines available either 7Hp Yanmar diesel or 11Hp Honda petrol engines are offered.

Moving the assembly from one side of the track requires lifting the power pack and drill assembly from the trolley and re-locating it on the opposite side. Note the light tool tray on the trolley.

Also note the automatic feeder, the bin for bulk dog screws for an operator to load the automatic feeder and magnetic universal pick-up head.

Approximate dimensions and weights are 123 Kg for the pantographic and power pack assembly, Length 1960 mm, width 600 mm Height 855 mm. Adjustable gauge rail trolley with light tool tray and easy glide wheels as shown.
